Monday Savings

At Albertsons today, I spent $11.51 and saved $11.31. Almost the exact same amount! Quaker rice cakes were on sale for $1, Hunts pudding for $.88, and ground turkey for $4.99. I can buy the ground turkey cheaper at Costco, but no one bothered to cross the meat off the freezer list as we used it. You tell a tween or teen to do something, and I guess from now on, I better check to make sure they actually did. :)
At Albertsons, they have a new rewards program, called Cookware Rewards. You earn a sticker for every $10 you spend and eventually you can collect enough to buy a piece of cookware for $.01 + a certain amount of stickers. This promotion last through Jan., so hopefully I'll earn some cookware!

Smart and Final didn't have anything on sale that I needed this week.

Friday Savings

Today at Walmart I spent $110.85 and had $4.50 in coupons. I know it was a lot of money this week, but unfortunately, a few of the things I needed to buy were rather expensive. My shaving blade cartridges were $19.97, luckily I had a $3 coupon, but that's still a lot. Anyone have a cheaper suggestion? Also, my sons needed socks and underwear and those are over $5 each. Same with my Pronamel toothpaste. So, all of those made the trip expensive.

At Vons today, I spent $6.08 and saved $5.97, which is 50%. Aquafresh was on sale for $.99, Safeway can fruit $.88, Lucerne cream cheese $.99, and Yoplait Gogurt $2 + $.75 coupon(which was doubled) + $.75ecoupon.

At Ralphs today, I spent $2.96 and saved $5.81. Golden Graham cereal was on sale for $1.98 + $1 coupon and Lunchables for $.99.

First Day of School

This week has been the first day of school for all 3 of my kids. On Tuesday, my 3 year old son started preschool for 2 mornings a week. He did o.k. At the beginning, after the pledge of allegiance, he was confused about where to go, but the preschool director noticed and she led him to his class. He said his first day of school was fine. Today, when I picked him up, the teacher asked me if he had ever eaten a chicken wing before, and I said no. Well, when she looked at him, he was eating the bone! Luckily he didn't choke. Other than that, he said he liked it, especially playing outside in the pirate ship.

Today, is the first day of school for my other 2 kids. My 14 year old son started high school! I hope he has a good day and was able to find all of his classes. The staff there, all seem very nice and genuinely concerned about the well-being of all students, so I'm sure he'll be fine. I think he'll also like high school, because he's very smart, and I think he'll enjoy being treated like a kid who's being taught to become an independent adult.

My 11 year old daughter started 7th grade today. She's still at the same middle school, so her day shouldn't have been too bad. She will have new teachers and new classes, but it shouldn't be hard for her to find them. I talked to my husband after he dropped her off(while I was dropping off my son) and he said she has almost all the same classes as her best friend. So, that's great.

I'm anxious to pick them up and see how their day went. I hope it all works out because they only get out 5 minutes apart. I will have to pick up my daughter first, and then drive to the high school to pick up my son. My husband won't allow him to have a cell phone, so we'll have to do it the old fashioned way and just try to find each other. We'll have the same problem with drop off tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes and if we need to adjust our times in the morning, or not. Anyway, the next hour until I pick them up, can't come fast enough! I've been nervous for 3 days, and praying all day long, so I can't wait to see them and hear about their day!F

Monday Savings

At CVS on Friday, I spent $1.38 and saved $1.28. Gold Emblem ravioli was on sale for $.69. When the cashier was ringing up my items, even she commented on how great a deal it was! Now, I didn't go to the store for just these ravioli, but the other 2 things I wanted were out of stock. So, I had to get a rain check, and luckily their rain check includes the sale price and the extra bucks.

Today at Smart and Final, I spent $1.67 and saved $.67. Although, the savings doesn't accurately reflect what I really saved. Green beans were on sale for $.79/pound and sweet onions were on sale for $.59/pound. For some reason, whenever the sweet onions are on sale, they ring up as yellow onions which are only $.49/pound, normal price. I mentioned it to them before, and they said that's just how they ring up. So, I really did get the sweet onions for an even better deal than the advertised sale price, although it's not reflected in my savings total on my receipt.

At Albertsons I spent $4.48 and saved $3.29. Wacky mac pasta was on sale for $1 + $.50 coupon, mini watermelon $2.99, and whipping cream $.99. I just got lucky on the whipping cream. It wasn't an advertised deal, and Walmart didn't have any, so I had to buy it here. Lucky for me, it was on sale. :)

Friday Savings

Today at Walmart I spent $61.02 and used $2.25 in coupons. I also used the rest of the rebate card to pay for $35 of the bill. One expensive item I had to buy was sunblock for my 3 year old - it was $8.97!

At Vons I spent $8.56 and saved $9.50, which is 53%. Pork chops were on sale for $2.49/lb., pears for $.77/lb., and I also had to buy a bag of carrots because Walmart was still out, which unfortunately wasn't on sale. They didn't have any pork chops in their meat dept., but instead of settling for pork chops that weren't on sale, I asked the butcher and luckily, he had them in the back, he just had to wrap them. See, it never hurts to ask!

At Ralphs I spent $4.76 and saved $8.20. Cantaloupe was on sale for $.88 each, Danimals crush cups $1.88 + $1 coupon, and Doritos for $1.50. One nice thing I noticed is on my Ralphs receipt, it mentioned that I bought the recalled eggs, and could return them for a refund. That was nice, but we already ate them, and thankfully didn't get sick.

Monday Savings

I know it's Tuesday, but I thought I should keep my title the same in case any of you look for my regular posts by name. I had to shop today because yesterday I had to take my son to turn in his registration papers for high school, and get his picture taken, receive his textbooks, class schedule, and p.e. clothes.

Today at Albertsons I spent $23.48 and saved $25.44. Not bad, because I even had to buy two items that weren't on sale - a small milk because I can't go to Costco until tomorrow and ice cream cups. VO5 was on sale for $.59(the cheapest I've ever seen it anywhere), Betty Crocker cake mix $.75, Chex Mix $1 + $.55 coupon, Betty Crocker frosting $1.50 + $.75 coupon, Trix yogurt $1.50 + $.75 coupon, toaster strudels $2 + $.50 coupon, and Yoplait Delights $2 + .50 coupon.

The only bad thing was I tried to use that rebate card I used last week at Walmart, and for some reason it wouldn't work at Albertsons.

Friday Savings

Today at Walmart, I spent $70.76 and had $8.48 in coupons. See, every week can't be as great as last week, unfortunately. One nice thing, though, is one of the coupons I used was on the item I bought, a Lloyds bbq tub. It's always nice to find coupons on items that you can actually use. I also didn't actually pay for the groceries with our own money; I used a rebate card from the purchase of my son's trumpet.

At Ralphs I spent $24.31 and saved $19.05. I would've saved more, but Walmart was out of several items, so I had to buy them here. Luckily a couple of those items were on sale, but not all of them. Cheetos and Fritos were on sale for $1.49, Capri Sun $1.49, Pillsbury crescent rolls $1.49 + $.50 coupon, $.99 Quaker rice cakes, strawberries $1.50, lean beef cube steak $3.99/lb., and lettuce $.99.

At CVS I spent $1.23 and saved $5.40! That was a good deal, and all of it is for charity. Softsoap, Colgate toothbrush and Irish Spring were on sale for $.99 each. I also had $2 in extra bucks from last time to help pay for my purchase.

One weird thing happened while I was at CVS. When I got out of the van, a woman approached me and said she needed money to buy gas and she had a $42 CVS gift card. She would sell it to me for $30 and go with me in to CVS while I bought my items with the gift card, to prove that the gift card really had that amount of money on it. I have never been asked anything like that before, so I declined. My husband said that was the right thing to do, because maybe the card was stolen, or who knows what else. I felt really bad saying no, but my kids were with me too, and I was kind of afraid. What would you have done?

Hummingbird Placemats and Napkin Rings

Well, I finally finished! I have been working on these placemats and napkin rings for a month and a half. Granted, I did stop a couple of times to re-make an item that sold, but it still took longer than I thought. I really enjoyed making them and I think they turned out great, but I've never worked with oval placemats before, so it took a little getting used to. Once I found my starting point, things were easy to stitch. Adding the outlining to each item was a little time consuming, but it definitely made a difference because it made each item "pop."

Anyway, these are for sale in my Etsy shop - see the right side bar in order to connect to my shop. If these sell, I also have a Fall set and a butterfly set, I will work on. In the meantime, I'm working on a pumpkin container for Halloween.

So, what do you think of these placemats? Have you ever had a project that took longer than you thought it would?

Monday Savings

Today at Albertsons I spent $9.35 and saved $14.78. Lunchables were on sale for $1, Pepperidge Farms cookies for $1.99 + $.55 coupon which was doubled by a special Albertsons "double your coupons," coupon, and $1.49 for Tree Top juice.

Smart and Final didn't have any sales on anything I needed to buy today. So, in all, this week's shopping was very inexpensive! I love weeks like that!

Friday Savings

Today at Walmart I spent $32.07 and had $1 in coupons! It's been awhile since I've been able to have such a low grocery shopping trip. I'm using meat I previously bought on sale, vegetables from our garden and some on sale at another store and some from last week, and lots of other ingredients I've previosly bought on sale. I wish I could do this every week.

At Vons today I spent $11.46 and saved $7.03, which is 38%. Looking at the prices of what I bought, I thought my savings would be a greater percentage, but the items they had on sale, showed up at the correct price on the receipt, but they didn't show up as being a sale price. Anyway, Dole juice was on sale for $1.99, Hot/Lean Pockets $1.50, and Lucerne ice cream novelties $1.49.

At Ralphs today I spent $1.05 and saved $18.63! Now that's more like it. Ralphs oatmeal was on sale for $2(I originally was going to buy Quaker oatmeal on sale for 50% off, but Ralphs brand was still cheaper than that), Ralphs can vegetables $.60, Speed Stick deoderant $.88(charity) + $.50 coupon which was doubled, and cauliflower was $.99/pound, although I bought it thinking it was only $.99 for a whole one. I also had $8 rewards that I earned last quarter.

At CVS today I spent $1.56 and saved $4.83. Dawn was on sale for $.97 + $.25 coupon, and Colgate Total was $2.99 + $.50 coupon + $2 extra bucks for next time. I also had $2 extra bucks earned from last time to help pay for this shopping trip.

Preschool is Closed

Well, I just got a very upsetting call last night. Our church preschool that my son was supposed to attend next month, is being closed. Apparently it wasn't able to financially support itself and in this tough economy, our church couldn't help support it either. So, now with most preschools starting in 2 weeks, I'm trying to scramble and find another preschool for my son to attend.

I left messages at 3 preschools this morning and I missed the call back from one, and I have a tour of one on Monday(it's the same preschool my daughter attended 8 years ago, but they told me to read about them on the website because things have changed). So, now I'm still waiting for 2 call backs.

I did get in touch with 2 other preschools, but one only has 3 full days as their part-time program, and I only want to send him 2 mornings a week. I went to visit another preschool today, and it was o.k., but it isn't my first choice. They were really big into safety, which is great, but not too much into academics, which I'm looking for. So, the search goes on, and I don't have much time. Talk about a major frustration!

Monday Savings

Today at Smart and Final I spent $5.23 and saved $2.01. I had a rain check for sweet onions $.69/pound, cantaloupe was on sale for $.20/pound, and 10 pounds of rice for $3.79. They didn't have too many things on sale that I needed.

At Albertsons today I spent $13.52 and saved $8.17. I had to buy a small milk at regular price, so that's why the lower savings. Starkist tuna was on sale for $.44, Prego pasta sauce $.99(unfortunately the limit was 2), celery for $1, York peppermint patties for $2.99, ice cream cups $2, and Welches juice $2 + $.75 coupon which was doubled due to a doubling coupon from Albertons. Unfortunately, Albertsons doesn't automatically double the coupons like Vons and Ralphs; instead, once in awhile, they'll have doubling coupons. The cashier wondered if we had been on vacation because she hadn't seen us in awhile. Since I've changed our shopping habits, I usually only need to go in the express lane rather than a regular check out aisle, so I don't usually see her anymore.
