About the book:
The Blessings of Unity offers insight and ideas for creating godly unity in our marriages centered around two key concepts:
1) Abiding in the Vine and walking in the Spirit, and
2) Learning and applying the concept of unity.
Unity is achieved when a man and woman strive for agreement with God by processing His Will on every decision and in every issue. Through Biblically-centered discussions of discord, division, unity, discipleship, and prayer, and through exploring Biblical examples of unity, Richard Case offers husbands and wives practical and spiritual advice for working together in unity in the Spirit so that they can more perfectly present themselves to God for his divine approval.

Together, Richard and Linda have started up several churches that remain strong today, and have served as interim pastors of troubled churches, bringing reconciliation and new vision to these situations. I was excited to review this book because I could definitely use advice on how to improve my marriage, and have, like the subtitle of the book says, "God's Best for our Marriages." The book has 9 Chapters, and so far, I've read through Chapter 6. Chapter 1 is an "Evalutation of Your Marriage." There are things for you and your husband to write down and also some things to rate. When you're both done, you talk about your evaluation, so that you have an idea of where you can use improvement in your marriage; something to keep in mind when you read the book. My husband wasn't available to complete this with me, so I just had to do it myself.
Chapter 2 is "Division and Discord." I learned that a lot of this comes from selfishness. That hit home with me, because I often think about how my needs/wants aren't getting met, rather than doing what I can to meet my husband's. I also like that the author shares his own story about he and his wife, throughout the book, because it helps to know that we aren't the only ones not living a perfect married life.
Chapter 3 is "Unity" and it talks about how 2 are better than 1. Chapter 4 is "The Keys to Unity" and it talked about how no decisions should be made until there is unity. That can be done by having a safe environment to communicate. This is a trouble spot in our marriage.
Chapter 5 is "Unity Comes Through Abiding in the Word" and it is about just what it says, spending time in Scripture. Throughout the book are tons of Scriptures to back up what the author is saying, and to give you something to study more on your own. Chapter 6 is "How to Handle Disagreements and Differences of Opinion." I just started reading that chapter. Chapter 7 is "Praying Through to Unity," Chapter 8 is "Biblical Examples of Unity," and Chapter 9 is "Psalm 133.. There The Lord Commands Blessings."
There's also a link to a free ebook, Unshakeable (6 pgs), material that will help and support growth in Christ, from the All for Jesus ministry: Unshakeable.
